Technical Note: Regions

• Regions can overlap, based on
  • size they are defined to be (extent)
  • margin of neighboring region
  • amount of overlap = extent - margin
• Whether text will overflow or be scrolled, clipped, etc., can also be controlled through properties
• The region-body region (but not other regions) may contain columns
• Depending on orientation
  (for vertical Japanese, right-to-left Hebrew, etc.)
  • “top” may become left
  • “right” become top, etc.
